Senate Resolution 52

(As Adopted by Senate)

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE CLINTON HIGH SCHOOL "ARROWS" BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM AND HEAD COACHES ROBERT GREEN AND THOMAS TUNBERG FOR WINNING THE MHSAA CLASS 6A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, Clinton High School's joyful celebration is still going strong after the Arrows Boys Basketball Team captured the State's 6A Hoops Title in Jackson on March 6, 2021.  Making it that much sweeter, the thrilling 56-51 triumph over reigning champ Starkville in the Big House handed the Clinton boys squad their first Gold Ball since 1993; and

WHEREAS, Clinton and Starkville, the top two teams in all of 6A, and maybe the state, were locked in an epic battle for the Championship.  Clinton had been in a similar spot before against this team, only on a smaller stage.  Clinton's hoops leader all season, Kimani Hamilton, elevated his game in the Mississippi Coliseum, especially when it counted the most, with the game on the line in the 4th Quarter.  Swiftly dribbling the ball, grabbing rebounds, playing awesome defense, and scoring at crucial moments, No. 5 proved to be unstoppable.  Hamilton scored 14 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead the way for the Arrows.  In the final period, he hit consecutive buckets to put Clinton ahead 50-45 with one minute and 35 seconds left, as the home team crowd anticipated Clinton's first boys hoops State Title in 28 years.  Kimani's teammates came up huge, too.  Allen Hughes led the Arrows with 16 points, and Micheal Bell added 12.  Jeremiah Foster chipped in with eight points and eight rebounds; and

WHEREAS, there really was no other choice when Hamilton, a 6'9" junior, was selected the MVP of the Game.  Excited Clinton fans rushed the court to congratulate the Arrows players.  Decked out in red, newly-named Clinton Superintendent Andy Schoggin was all smiles at the Big House after the Arrows notched one of their biggest basketball triumphs in school history.  As he did all season, Clinton High School Basketball Coach Robert Green remained a sea of calm as the clock ticked down from the opening tipoff.  For Clinton's Boys Basketball Team, it marked their fourth State Championship.  The others came in 1955, 1960 and 1993; and

WHEREAS, the Clinton Arrows 2021 Championship Roster is:  Tyler Nichols, Jeremy Mack, E. Jai Mason, Lorenzo Lewis, Allen Hughes, Romonte Moore, Kimani Hamilton, Mark Hunter, Brandon Taylor, Matthew McCray, Micheal Bell, Malachi Martin, PJ Terrell, Jr., Jaylon Davis, Artavis Davis, Daelin Harper, Alex Winn, Nick McKinley, Micah Martin, Jabarii Coleman, Hafid Muhammad II, Sukhmin Pandher, Devin Bass, Omarion Luss, Delawrence Butler, Ashten Michael-Neal, Velmante Smith, Maxiumus Littleton, Will Johnson, Martinez Bogan, Christian Washington, Jeremiah Foster, Dearras Avery, Maxwell McBride, Elonta Johnson, Donte Tripp, Carter Mullins, and Gavin McLaws; Head Coaches Robert Green and Thomas Tunberg; Assistant Coaches Jay Case and Leonard Taylor; and Statistician Hayden King; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this special group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Clinton High School "Arrows" Basketball Team and Head Coaches Robert Green and Thomas Tunberg for winning the MHSAA Class 6A State Championship, and extend our best wishes to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors for continued success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Head Coaches Robert Green and Thomas Tunberg and Clinton Superintendent Andy Schoggin, forwarded to the Clinton School Board, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
