Senate Resolution 50

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE HARTFIELD ACADEMY "HAWKS" BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM AND COACH STEVEN MAKAMSON FOR WINNING THE MIDSOUTH ASSOCIATION OF INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS CLASS 4A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, the Hartfield Academy "Hawks" Boys Basketball Team won the Midsouth Association of Independent Schools (MAIS) 4A State Championship Game against Starkville Academy on February 27, 2021, after defeating Hillcrest Christian School (Semifinals) and Bayou Academy (Quarterfinals); and

WHEREAS, in the Championship Game, players Josh Lee and Jonathan Lucas dominated the floor. Lee had 14 points, 11 rebounds, and 3 steals and his teammate Lucas had 16 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists; and

WHEREAS, with a winning score of 45-20, the Hawks closed out their season and will move up to the 5A Division next year; and

WHEREAS, "I am so proud of our boys and coaching staff, especially our Seniors: Jake Jesiolowski, Will Edwards, Brysun Redmond, Josh Lee, Regan Henderson, and Jonathan Lucas. We have had a remarkable season. Winning the 4A State Championship is quite an accomplishment considering all the good teams and coaches in this classification," said Coach Steven Makamson; and

WHEREAS, the Hartfield "Hawks" Championship Varsity Boys Basketball Roster is: Taydem Meyers, G; Garrett Jackson, G; Josh Lee, PG; Peyton Elliott, G; Regan Henderson, G/F; Will Edwards, G; Will Elliott, F; Silas Clark, F; Jonah Caldwell, PG; Jake Jesiolowski, F; Brice Remley, G; Joe Gunn Thrasher, F; Jonathan Lucas, G/F; Brysun Redmond, G; Dawson Pike, G; Reeves Parker, F; Melvin Collins, C; Randy Avery, F; Head Coach Steven Makamson; Assistant Coaches: Ronnie Clark, Junior Atkinson, and Neal Broom; and Managers: Jay Clark, Taylor Lewis, Cole Withers and Blake Condon; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Hartfield Academy "Hawks" Boys Basketball Team and Coach Steven Makamson for winning the Midsouth Association of Independent Schools Class 4A State Championship, and extend to the players, coaches, parents and sponsors our best wishes for future championships.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Makamson for the team and Head of School David Horner, forwarded to the Board of Trustees of Hartfield Academy and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
