A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND CONGRATULATING BILOXI ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AND D'IBERVILLE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL FOR RECEIVING THE 2020 NATIONAL BLUE RIBBON SCHOOL AWARD IN ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE.

WHEREAS, we join the United States Department of Education and the education community in recognizing two Mississippi elementary schools that were awarded the 2020 National Blue Ribbon School Award by the United States Department of Education; and

WHEREAS, Biloxi Elementary School and D'Iberville Elementary School received this recognition for their academic excellence or progress in closing achievement gaps among students and being among the state's highest performing schools; and

WHEREAS, the first school is Popp's Ferry Elementary School located in Biloxi, Mississippi. Popp's Ferry is a Title I School for Kindergarten through Third Grade, serving 500 students. The Principal at the time of the nomination, Dr. Todd Boucher, current Principal Dr. Vivian Malone, Biloxi Public School Superintendent Marcus Boudreaux, as well as the members of the Popp's Ferry faculty and staff, are to be congratulated; and

WHEREAS, the second school is D'Iberville Elementary School in D'Iberville, Mississippi. D'Iverville Elementary is a Title I School for Kindergarten through Fourth Grade, serving over 700 students. This is their second Blue Ribbon School Award, having previously been honored in 2009. Principal Cindy Dusang, Harrison County School Superintendent Roy Gill, and all of D'Iberville Elementary faculty and staff members are to be congratulated; and

WHEREAS, it is an honor that two of the four Mississippi schools awarded the National Blue Ribbon School Award call the Fourth District of Mississippi home; and

WHEREAS, Mississippi is fortunate to have schools and educators dedicated to preparing the next generation; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we commend these Mississippi schools for this incredible achievement which has brought honor to their students, their teachers and administrators, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby recognize and congratulate Biloxi Elementary School and D'Iberville Elementary School for receiving the 2020 National Blue Ribbon School Award in Acknowledgement of Academic Performance, and extend the best wishes of the Mississippi Senate for future academic success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to the Principals of Popp's Ferry and D'Iberville Elementary Schools, forwarded to the Board of Trustees of the Biloxi School District and the State Board of Education, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
