A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING OLE MISS LINEMAN TERRENCE METCALF UPON HIS INDUCTION INTO THE 2021 CLASS OF THE MISSISSIPPI SPORTS HALL OF FAME AND MUSEUM.
WHEREAS, the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum has announced its 2021 Class which includes Ole Miss Lineman Terrence Metcalf from Clarksdale, Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, at Clarksdale High School, Terrence Metcalf played both on offense and defense. He was rated as one of the top linemen in the country; and
WHEREAS, Terrence made several All-State and All-American teams and then chose to attend Ole Miss. He was a starter almost immediately with the Rebels, going 8-4 and getting a bowl bid; and
WHEREAS, three games into his second season, he suffered an ankle injury that ended the season but gave him a medical redshirt; and
WHEREAS, he was named to All-Conference and All-American by several groups each year and was selected to the Senior Bowl; and
WHEREAS, the Chicago Bears took Metcalf in the third round of the 2002 draft and he played for nine seasons, making one Super Bowl a 29-17 loss to the Colts; and
WHEREAS, he has coached at several levels including time at the community college level; and
WHEREAS, he has been selected as an SEC Legend and to the Ole Miss Athletic Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, his son, D.K. Metcalf, is currently a star wide receiver in the NFL with the Seattle Seahawks; and
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we join the Mississippi sports community in honoring a Mississippi sports legend who has brought honor to his university, his community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Ole Miss Lineman Terrence Metcalf upon his induction into the 2021 class of the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum and extend to Terrence and his family our best wishes for future success.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Terrence Metcalf, forwarded to the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
