House Resolution 77

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING POPP'S FERRY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL FOR RECEIVING THE 2020 NATIONAL BLUE RIBBON SCHOOL AWARD IN ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE.

     WHEREAS, Popp's Ferry Elementary School has been awarded the 2020 National Blue Ribbon School Award by the United States Department of Education in recognition of its academic excellence and progress in closing achievement gaps among students and being one of the state's highest performing schools; and

     WHEREAS, one of 367 schools across the country that were chosen as National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2020, Popp's Ferry Elementary School, located in Biloxi, Mississippi, is a Title I School for kindergarten through third grade that serves 500 students; and

     WHEREAS, the coveted National Blue Ribbon Schools Award affirms the hard work of educators, families and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging and engaging content; and  

     WHEREAS, the principal at the time of the nomination, Dr. Todd Boucher, the current principal, Dr. Vivian Malone, and Biloxi Public School Superintendent Marcus Boudreaux, as well as the members of the Popp's Ferry Elementary School faculty and staff all deserve immense praise and congratulations for their dedication to the students and to achieving this elite distinction; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize the excellent academic progress made by schools such as Popp's Ferry Elementary School, which have brought honor to their community and to the State of Mississippi: 

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Popp's Ferry Elementary School for being awarded the 2020 National Blue Ribbon School Award by the United States Department of Education, and extend best wishes to school administrators, teachers and students on this auspicious moment in Mississippi history for continued success in all of their future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Principal Dr. Vivian Malone, Biloxi Public School Superintendent Marcus Boudreaux, and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
