A RESOLUTION COMMENDING JACKSON STATE UNIVERSITY'S DAYZSHA ROGAN UPON BEING NAMED THE 2020-2021 SWAC WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE YEAR.
WHEREAS, Dayzsha Rogan, of Ripley, Mississippi, earned the distinguished title of 2020-2021 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Women's Basketball Player of the Year; and
WHEREAS, Jackson State University senior Dayzsha Rogan was a major factor in the Lady Tigers success as her team rolled through the SWAC regular season, going 14-1 in conference play and 15-5 overall to win the SWAC regular season title; and
WHEREAS, Rogan led the conference in scoring with 17.8 points per game, led the conference in free throw percentage at .803 percent for the season and she landed all over the statistical leaderboards in the conference; and
WHEREAS, she was second in three-point field goals per game, sixth in field goal percentage per game at .435 percent and seventh in steals per game with two per contest, and she helped lead Jackson State University to the No. 1 seed in the SWAC Women's Tournament; and
WHEREAS, Dayzsha led the Lady Tigers through the SWAC tournament to a championship and a berth into the 2021 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Tournament, beating Mississippi Valley State University, Grambling State University and Alabama State University to capture the title; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to pay tribute to inspiring Mississippians, especially those such as Dayzsha Rogan, whose work ethic and drive to succeed brings great credit to her community, her university and the great Magnolia State:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend Dayzsha Rogan upon being named the 2020-2021 SWAC Women's Basketball Player of the Year, and extend best wishes for continued success in all her future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Dayzsha Rogan and to the members of the Capital Press Corps.
