House Resolution 39

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MRS. JESSIE ANNA COTTON ROBINSON UPON THE OCCASION OF HER 100TH BIRTHDAY AND EXTENDING SINCERE WISHES FOR HER HAPPINESS ON SUCH A MOMENTOUS AND JOYFUL OCCASION.

     WHEREAS, on December 10, 1920, the world was blessed with the birth of Mrs. Jessie Anna Cotton Robinson, and a century later, upon the delightful occasion of her 100th birthday, she continues to shower those around her with unconditional love and support; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Robinson, affectionately known as "Mrs. Honey," was the youngest of four girls born in Louisville, Mississippi, to Annie Cotton and Murph Beckham, and in her youth she attended Pine Grove School; and

     WHEREAS, true love struck when Mrs. Honey met Mr. Johnnie Robinson, and the two exchanged the vows of holy matrimony with the sweet words "I do," in Pendleton, Oregon, and to this union, three children were born, and the two love birds were happily married until Mr. Robinson's passing in 1959; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Honey worked diligently throughout her life as a school cook, seamstress and nanny, and she has always enjoyed cooking and traveling, as she has visited almost all 50 states as well as the Bahamas and Canada, but what she loves most in life is spending time with her family, especially her more than 20 grandchildren; and

     WHEREAS, with marvelous wit, Mrs. Honey has stated, "I am a little piece of leather that's well put together," and throughout the years, she has undoubtedly inspired her family and friends, and her children and grandchildren love her tremendously and revere her as the wonderful mother and grandmother she truly is; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and honor the lives of Mississippi's wisest generation, especially those such as Mrs. Honey on the occasion of her 100th birthday, for being a gracious woman who loves her family and friends unconditionally, bringing honor to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Mrs. Jessie Anna Cotton Robinson upon the occasion of her 100th birthday and extend sincere wishes for her happiness on such a momentous and joyful occasion.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mrs. Jessie Anna Cotton Robinson and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
