House Resolution 32

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING SARAH MISIAK OF COLUMBUS, MISSISSIPPI, FOR BEING NAMED THE 2020 STATE GAMES OF MISSISSIPPI FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR.

     WHEREAS, Sarah Misiak is the 2020 Female Athlete of the Year for the State Games of Mississippi; and   

     WHEREAS, Sarah Misiak hails from Columbus, Mississippi, and has been a competitive swimmer since her high school and college days, but took many years off to focus on her family — husband and four boys (the youngest 13, the oldest 20); and

     WHEREAS, about 10 years ago, Sarah started swimming competitively again, entering the National Senior Olympic Games twice where she won three gold medals in the 2017 Birmingham games and two gold medals and a bronze medal in the Albuquerque games; and

     WHEREAS, Sarah has competed in the State Games for six years and said this about State Games Swimming Commissioner Wade Heggie: "Wade and his team puts on such an uplifting, well-organized, fun event every year and held an especially 'safe' event this year.  It meant a lot to me physically, mentally and spiritually to be able to compete and have wonderful fellowship during such trying times."; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend outstanding Mississippi athletes, especially those such as Sarah Misiak, who has exceeded all expectations of greatness and brought honor to the City of Columbus and to the great Magnolia State:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Sarah Misiak of Columbus, Mississippi, for being named the 2020 State Games of Mississippi Female Athlete of the Year and express best wishes for continued success in all of her future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Sarah Misiak and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
