House Concurrent Resolution 30

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE OUTSTANDING ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF AND CONGRATULATING THE SIX STELLAR HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETES WHO WERE NAMED RECIPIENTS OF THE 2020 MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION (MHSAA) MR. FOOTBALL AWARD.

     WHEREAS, on Wednesday, November 11, 2020, six standout players, one from each Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) classification, were selected as Mississippi Mr. Football recipients for the 2020 season, in partnership with the New Orleans Saints, MHSAA and the Mississippi Association of Coaches; and

     WHEREAS, the honorees were selected by a statewide committee of high school coaches and media who cover high school football, which premises its decision based upon performance throughout the season, level of competition, big game performance, team success

and designation as a highly recruited athlete; and

     WHEREAS, the MHSAA Class 1A winner is Robert Henry of Lumberton, a senior running back/quarterback, who rushed for 1,440 yards, passed for 419 yards and accounted for 27 touchdowns for Lumberton's 8-1 season, and who makes a repeat appearance after having been selected as Class 1A Mr. Football in 2019; and

     WHEREAS, the MHSAA Class 2A is Ty Keyes of Taylorsville, a senior quarterback, who completed 84 of 132 passes for 1,552 yards with 16 touchdowns and three interceptions for Taylorsville's 8-1 season, and who makes a third appearance after having been selected as Class 2A Mr. Football in 2018 and 2019; and

     WHEREAS, the MHSAA Class 3A Mr. Football is Chandler Pittman of Magee, a senior quarterback, who passed for 1,496 yards and rushed for 682 yards and accounted for 26 touchdowns for Magee's undefeated 8-0 season; and

     WHEREAS, the MHSAA Class 4A Mr. Football is Ty Cooper of Louisville, a senior defensive end, who had nine quarterback sacks, two quarterback hurries and two fumble recoveries for Louisville's 9-1 season; and

     WHEREAS, the MHSAA Class 5A Mr. Football is Jarquez Hunter of Neshoba Central, a senior running back, who accounted for 1,767 yards and scored 22 touchdowns for Neshoba Central's 8-1 season; and

     WHEREAS, the MHSAA Class 6A Mr. Football is Justin Walley of D'Iberville, a senior wide receiver/defensive back, accounted for 1,200 all-purpose yards, 14 touchdowns, two interceptions and two blocked kicks for the Warriors' undefeated 9-0 season; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend with great pride such a superb group of student athletes upon their remarkable accomplishments and exemplary honor it has brought to their schools, their communities and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby congratulate all six of the 2020 MHSAA Mr. Football winners for their outstanding performances during the 2020 football season, and extend best wishes for continued success in their future academic and athletic endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mississippi High School Activities Association to distribute to the recipients of the 2020 Mississippi High School Activities Association Mr. Football Award and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
