A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION HONORING THE LIFE, LEGACY AND CONTRIBUTIONS OF MR. ARTHUR JAMES "JOBIE" ANDERSON, SR., AND EXPRESSING SINCEREST SYMPATHY UPON HIS PASSING.

     WHEREAS, Mr. Arthur James Anderson, Sr., a servant to his country and fellowman, departed this earthly life to be in the presence of the Lord on December 22, 2020, at the age of 92 bringing sorrow to his family and many friends; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Anderson, who was affectionately referred to by many as "Jobie," was born in Jackson, Mississippi, as the second of four sons on April 27, 1928, to his parents, Howard and Tillie Ashley Anderson and was reared in love along with his brothers, Jessie, Clarence and Joe Charles; and

     WHEREAS, after moving with his family, Mr. Anderson was reared in McComb, Mississippi, where he completed his elementary and secondary education, and following high school, he joined the United States Army and was honorably discharged; and

     WHEREAS, knowing the importance of receiving an education, Mr. Anderson earned a bachelor of science degree from Alcorn College, now known as Alcorn State University, a university which he remained a stout supporter of throughout his life; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Anderson, after receiving his bachelor of science degree, furthered his education by earning a master's degree from the University of Mississippi and an education specialist from Jackson State University; and

     WHEREAS, utilizing his education, Mr. Anderson broadened the minds of young people by teaching in the Greenwood Public Schools, Brookhaven Public Schools and finally at Utica Jr. College, which is now known as Hinds Community College Utica Campus, before retiring from teaching; and     

     WHEREAS, a man of many talents who was blessed with an entrepreneurial spirit, Mr. Anderson operated Anderson's Cleaners in Jackson, Mississippi, where he was known for his superb service that included pick-up as well as delivery service; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Anderson was a faithful Christian who began as a member of Flowery Mount Baptist Church in McComb, and he later joined St. James Baptist Church in Brookhaven, Mississippi, where he served as Sunday School superintendent; and

     WHEREAS, upon moving to Jackson, Mr. Anderson joined Hyde Park Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Dr. Leon Bell, and while at Hyde Park he was ordained a deacon, and he later joined New Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church under Dr. Bell's leadership; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Anderson, while at New Mount Zion edified the body of Christ by serving as superintendent of the Sunday School, lifting his voice in praise as a member of the choir, serving as a joint deacon and with the trustee ministry as well as other church committees; and

     WHEREAS, the memories of Mr. Anderson will continue to  flourish in the hearts and minds of his survivors, some of whom include:  his beautiful wife of 48 years, Linda; children, Arthur Jr., Carlisa, Frenchye, Elliott and Merlie; and grandchildren, Erin, Alexis and Kameron; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to honor and commend the life of Mississippians such as Mr. Arthur J. Anderson, Sr., whose service to this great country, dedication to the field of education and love for his family, church and friends will be treasured for generations to come:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we mourn the loss and commemorate the life, legacy and contributions of Mr. Arthur James "Jobie" Anderson, Sr., and express sincerest sympathy to his family and friends upon his passing.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Mr. Arthur James Anderson, Sr., and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
