House Bill 1473

AN ACT TO RESTORE THE RIGHT OF SUFFRAGE TO MATTHEW HENRY MCBRIDE OF TALLAHATCHIE COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1.  The right of suffrage is hereby fully and completely restored to Matthew Henry McBride of Tallahatchie County, Mississippi, who was disqualified as an elector as a result of his conviction for the crime of Theft of Property on January 30, 2013, in Rutherford County, Tennessee, for which he was sentenced to serve six (6) years.  He completed all terms and conditions of his sentence and was discharged on October 23, 2019.   The Legislature is informed by the Tennessee Department of Correction that he "successfully completed his supervision and his sentence term has expired.  He does not have any other Tennessee felony convictions and has satisfied our supervision requirements."  The Legislature is also informed by the Mississippi Department of Corrections that Matthew McBride has not been convicted of a crime in Mississippi as the department was "unable to locate any information that matches the Name/SSN/DOB" in its system.  The Legislature has been informed that he has since conducted himself as a law-abiding and honorable citizen in a good and lawful manner.

SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
