AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 65-21-1, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO REVISE THE PROVISIONS OF LAW TO PRESCRIBE THE DESIGN OF BRIDGES AND CULVERTS ON PUBLIC ROADS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  Section 65-21-1, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:

     65-21-1.  All bridges and culverts hereafter built, rebuilt, or placed in the traveled way of any public road in this state shall * * *be not less than conform to the design standards in effect at the time of design and shall extend across the full width of the crown of the roadway * * *, and shall have guide or warning posts on either side.  All bridges hereafter built, rebuilt, or placed in any public road of this state shall be built the full width of the crown of the roadway where the same is sixteen feet (16ʹ) wide or less, and.  On roads having a * * *greater design width greater than sixteen feet (16ʹ) * * * the, bridges shall be not less than sixteen feet (16ʹ) wide * * *; and all.  All bridges hereafter built or rebuilt shall be built with * * *banisters railings or barriers on either side.  This section shall not apply to * * *temporary bridges and culverts on detours; and all public highways in this state within the area of, or contingent to, any national forest or reforestation project, which have been or may be taken over, constructed, or reconstructed by * * *this a department of the national government, may have bridges or culverts the width of said highways, * * *but not bridges and culverts be less than twelve feet (12ʹ) wide.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2021.
