House Bill 42

AN ACT MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE SOUTHERN HEALTH COMMISSION, INC., A HEALTH AND WELLNESS CENTER IN WASHINGTON COUNTY FOR THE FISCAL YEAR 2022.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  The following sum, or so much of it as may be

necessary, is appropriated out of any money in the State General Fund not otherwise appropriated, to the State Department of Health to be used as provided in Section 2 of this act, for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2021, and ending June 30, 2022..................................

................................................... $375,000.00.

     SECTION 2.  The Department of Health shall provide the funds appropriated by Section 1 of this act as a grant to the Southern Health Commission, Inc., a health and wellness center in Washington County whose primary goal is providing comprehensive clinical services and medical offices to improve the health and well-being of the people in the community, provide a place for local physicians, pharmacists and intern students to experience wellness so that they might encourage participation by their patients, and help people achieve a healthy and fit lifestyle that can last a lifetime.  Not more than Fifty Thousand Dollars ($50,000.00) of the grant may be expended by the Southern Health Commission on evaluation services contracted with a state institution of higher learning, preferably a Historically Black College or University (HBCU) located in the Mississippi Delta.

     SECTION 3.  The money appropriated by this act shall be paid by the State Treasurer out of any money in the State General Fund not otherwise appropriated, upon warrants issued by the State Fiscal Officer; and the State Fiscal Officer shall issue his warrants upon requisitions signed by the proper person, officer or officers in the manner provided by law.

     SECTION 4.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2021.
