AMENDMENT NO 1 PROPOSED TO

AMEND by inserting the following subsections after line 633:
(*) The department shall award a supplemental teaching endorsement to a teacher employed by the Mississippi School of the Arts if the teacher has completed any combination of twenty-one (21) hours of course work in the endorsement area or in a substantially similar area of coursework, as certified by the Executive Director of the Mississippi School of the Arts, with all coursework having a grade of "C" or higher. This subsection (*) shall be in addition to the traditional consideration of supplemental teaching endorsements by the department pursuant to regulation.
(*) When determining licensure class, the department shall consider the substance of the coursework of an applicant's original, valid, out-of-state degree as evidenced by transcript hours and certified letters from faculty members who instruct in the degree program regardless of the title of the degree.
FURTHER, AMEND the title by inserting the following after the semicolon on line 2:
TO REQUIRE THE DEPARTMENT TO AWARD A SUPPLEMENTAL TEACHING ENDORSEMENT TO A TEACHER EMPLOYED BY THE MISSISSIPPI SCHOOL OF THE ARTS UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS; TO REQUIRE THE DEPARTMENT TO CONSIDER THE SUBSTANCE OF AN APPLICANT'S OUT-OF-STATE DEGREE REGARDLESS OF THE TITLE OF THE DEGREE WHEN DETERMINING LICENSURE CLASS;
