Senate Resolution 48

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING CATHY ANDERSON OF COLUMBIA, MISSISSIPPI, FOR BEING NAMED AN EXTRAORDINARY EDUCATOR FOR 2020 BY CURRICULUM ASSOCIATES.

WHEREAS, Curriculum Associates created the Extraordinary Educators Program to celebrate and connect Best-in-Class teachers from across the nation; and

WHEREAS, the 2020 Class of Extraordinary Educators includes an elite group of 31 teachers from across the country who illustrate growth and achievement via formal assessments, demonstrate classroom innovation and engagement practices for students, are evangelists for high standards and student achievement, and exhibit best-in-class use of the i-Ready Program and/or Ready instructional resources designed by Curriculum Associates in their classroom; and

WHEREAS, Cathy Anderson, of Columbia, Mississippi, was named as an inductee of the 2020 Class of Extraordinary Educators, as she personifies the ideals that Curriculum Associates sets forth with the program; and

WHEREAS, Cathy was born and raised in New York and moved to Columbia, Mississippi, her Senior year of High School; and

WHEREAS, Cathy received her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education degree, a Master of Education, School Leadership and Supervision degree, and a Masters Degree in Psychometrics; and

WHEREAS, Cathy has been teaching in Mississippi since 1995, has served as an Elementary and High School Principal, and currently is a Fourth-Grade Math Teacher at Thames Elementary School in Hattiesburg, Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, Cathy says she was called to teach, "I enjoy watching my students acquire new dimensions in their learning. This monumental enjoyment also brings about new challenges and situations that must be conquered. There is never a moment that doesn't lead to uncharted territories;" and

WHEREAS, Cathy loves teaching because she says, "Instructional time enables my students to learn and grow. Learning empowers students to become masterful problem solvers and critical thinkers. Teaching institutes the flourishment of creativity, innovations and experimental skills in students. As teachers, "we have a direct impact on society by shaping the world of tomorrow." Cathy's love of education has motivated her own son, who is studying medicine at Ole Miss; and

WHEREAS, as being inducted into the 2020 Class of Extraordinary Educators, Cathy has received recognition locally and nationally. She has gained access to a network of peers from around the country, earned professional development opportunities, and will have the opportunity to attend the Extraordinary Educators Leadership Summit in Boston, Massachusetts:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Cathy Anderson of Columbia, Mississippi, for being named as an Inductee of the Curriculum Associates 2020 Class of Extraordinary Educators and extend sincerest wishes for continued success in all of her future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Cathy Anderson and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
