A RESOLUTION EXTENDING THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY OF THE MISSISSIPPI SENATE TO THE BEREAVED FAMILY OF SHEENA RENEE COMFORT MILES AND COMMENDING HER SERVICE AS A HEALTHCARE FRONTLINE WORKER IN THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC.
WHEREAS, we join the members of the Mississippi House of Representatives in mourning the passing of Sheena Renee Comfort Miles, 60, of Morton, Mississippi, who passed away on May 1, 2020, following a courageous battle against COVID-19; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Miles spent her life in service to others when they needed help the most. An Emergency Room Nurse in Scott Regional Hospital, she spent her last working days helping those who had contracted the virus. In 2019, she was presented a 25-year plaque in honor of her service at Scott Regional Hospital. Her nursing career spanned 35 years and included terms at the former Scott Baptist Hospital and the University Hospital. She received her R.N. Degree from Hinds Community College; and
WHEREAS, Sheena believed that all healthcare frontline workers are the heroes in the COVID-19 pandemic. She appreciated her colleagues for their courage and kindness and was very proud to be counted in that number; and
WHEREAS, Sheena was born August 23, 1959, in Morton, Mississippi. She was the daughter of Betsy Cooper Comfort of Morton, Mississippi, and the late Harvey Thomas (H.T.) Comfort; and
WHEREAS, a graduate of Morton High School, she met the love of her life, Tommy, her husband of 43 years. Sheena was a cheerleader for the Morton High School Panthers and continued serving as a cheerleader for her family and friends throughout her lifetime. Every four years, she put on her "campaign manager hat" for her son, (Representative) Tom's elections. He was always happy to truthfully say he could not have done it without her. Sheena especially enjoyed treating her family to holiday gatherings and spending time perusing flea markets and shopping for Rae Dunn Pottery and other treasures with her beloved best friend, Tommy. In her spare time, Sheena served as an insurance agent at the family's agency, Tri-County Insurance; and
WHEREAS, Sheena and Tommy were recently attending First Baptist Church of Morton, following his retirement from active ministry. His most recent post was at New Pleasantdale Baptist Church in Philadelphia, Mississippi. Sheena enjoyed being a preachers' wife and cherished the friends she made during that special time in their lives; and
WHEREAS, Sheena is survived by her husband, the Reverend Tommy Miles; son, Representative Tom Miles, daughter, Stacey Miles; two grandchildren; her mother and sister, Sheri Prestage; and a host of nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. She is also survived by her fur babies, Angel and Frisky, who brought her unbounded joy; and
WHEREAS, we pay tribute and cherish fondly the memory of this most public-spirited citizen of Central Mississippi who was a tremendous blessing to all who knew her:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby extend the deepest sympathy to the bereaved family of Sheena Renee Comfort Miles and commending her service as a healthcare frontline worker in the COVID-19 pandemic.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to the family of Sheena Miles, the nursing community of Morton, Mississippi, and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
