Senate Resolution 3

A RESOLUTION TO COMMEND AND RECOGNIZE DISTRICT 1 STATE SENATOR CHRIS MASSEY FOR HIS DISTINGUISHED SERVICE IN THE MISSISSIPPI SENATE.

     WHEREAS, State Senator Chris Massey has represented Senate District 1, which includes portions of DeSoto County, for eight years.  In Chris Massey, the citizens of District 1 have had effective representation from a dedicated public servant with business experience; and

     WHEREAS, Chris Massey, a Republican, took office in the Senate in 2012.  He was born September 13, 1971, in Greenville, Mississippi, and graduated from Southaven High School and Northwest Mississippi Community College; and

     WHEREAS, Senator Massey is a Christian, and a homebuilder who is a member of the Home Builders Association of North Mississippi, the Home Builders Association of Mississippi, and the National Association of Home Builders, the National Rifle Association, the DeSoto Economic Council and the DeSoto Arts Council.  Massey and his wife, Cathy, have three children, Kate, Dalton and Morgan; and

     WHEREAS, he was Chairman of the Senate Ethics Commission, Vice Chair of Housing and a member of the Education, Finance, Labor, Municipalities, Tourism, Highways, and Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks Committees; and

     WHEREAS, Senator Massey's tenure in the Legislature made him an expert in many areas of Mississippi government and he was particularly knowledgeable in the issues of public procurement and local government; and

     WHEREAS, Senator Massey's service has been marked by his commitment to success and recognized leadership, sound judgment, civility, courtesy and fairness.  He has set the highest standard in all of his many roles:  husband, father, businessman, homebuilder, statesman, community leader, leader in the Mississippi Senate, and as a true friend.  Chris' service honored both the Mississippi Senate and this great state that he loved and served:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and recognize District 1 State Senator Chris Massey for his distinguished service in the Mississippi Senate.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Senator Chris Massey and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
