House Concurrent Resolution 86

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION TO AMEND HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 69, 2020 REGULAR SESSION, TO AUTHORIZE THE LEGISLATURE TO RECONVENE FOR THE PURPOSE OF RECONSIDERING CERTAIN VETOED BILLS; TO DELETE THE ALTERNATE DATE FOR SINE DIE ADJOURNMENT OF THE 2020 REGULAR SESSION OF THE LEGISLATURE; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That the seventh and eighth resolving clauses of House Concurrent Resolution No. 69, 2020 Regular Session, are amended to read as follows:

     "BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the House and Senate shall not convene for more than a total of six (6) days during the successive periods of extensions authorized by this resolution; however, this six-day limitation shall not apply to any day that the House and Senate reconvene in accordance with the following:  If the Governor vetoes any bill passed by the Legislature on or after October 1, 2020, the Speaker and the Lieutenant Governor may jointly determine to reconvene on the date and time jointly declared by the Speaker and the Lieutenant Governor, for the purpose of reconsidering the bill under the provisions of Section 72, Mississippi Constitution of 1890, and applicable House and Senate Rules.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the 2020 Regular Session of the Legislature shall stand adjourned sine die at 12:00 midnight on Saturday, October 10, 2020 * * *, unless an earlier date is necessary to comply with the six‑day limitation provided in the immediately preceding paragraph in which case the Legislature shall stand adjourned sine die at 12:00 midnight on that date, or unless an earlier date for sine die adjournment is set by concurrent resolution."
