A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING MR. KEN SPEARS UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AS CONSTABLE, PLACE 2, FOR NESHOBA COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI.

     WHEREAS, Mr. Ken Spears is retiring as Constable, Place 2, for Neshoba County, Mississippi, after selflessly dedicating many years of illustrious service; and

     WHEREAS, the Neshoba County community has benefitted tremendously from the cardinal guidance and innate leadership of Mr. Spears, because throughout his tenure, he has utilized his expertise to serve others with efficiency and effectiveness; and

     WHEREAS, elected to serve five terms in office, Mr. Spears was first elected as Constable, Place 2, in August 1999, and took office in January 2000; and

     WHEREAS, during his time in office, Mr. Spears worked with five different sheriffs, and has assisted the sheriff's department in numerous ways, such as working drug busts and investigations, working as a bailiff for many years for the circuit, chancery, justice and youth courts, and by serving justice court documents; and

     WHEREAS, for twenty years, Mr. Spears has driven a school bus for Neshoba County Schools, which he plans to continue to do during his retirement, and he has been head of a security detail for the school district for football games, basketball games, and graduations for over fifteen years; and 

     WHEREAS, after many years of providing exceptional service to the citizens of Neshoba County, retirement will surely leave an insatiable void in his heart because he enjoys serving others, but he is overjoyed to rest, relax and reflect on the countless number of remarkable people whose lives he has touched throughout his distinguished career; and

     WHEREAS, in his lighter days ahead, Mr. Spears will continue to spend time with the ones he loves most, including his wife of 40 years, Lanette, and two sons, Wesley and Nathan, and will especially enjoy riding the pastures and woods around home with his grandson, Chase; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Spears has been an outstanding servant to the citizens of Neshoba County, and will be dearly missed by all of his colleagues and others who were fortunate to have the opportunity to work with him; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend outstanding Mississippians, especially those such as Mr. Ken Spears, whose tireless devotion to serving others brings honor to the Neshoba County community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the distinguished career and meritorious service that Mr. Ken Spears provided as Constable, Place 2, for Neshoba County upon the occasion of his retirement, and extend sincerest wishes for continued success and joy in his future days ahead.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Ken Spears and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
