A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING THE INSPIRATIONAL HEROISM OF MADISON COUNTY SHERIFF DEPUTY BRAD SULLIVAN WHILE IN THE LINE OF DUTY, AND EXTENDING OUR MOST SINCERE WISHES FOR CONTINUED SUCCESS DURING HIS RECOVERY AND IN ALL OF HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

     WHEREAS, Madison County Sheriff's Office Deputy Brad Sullivan, from Winston County, Mississippi, embodies all of the characteristics of a true hero intrepidity, valor, prowess, gallantry, bravery, courage and fortitude characteristics that he continues to possess as he embarks on a very long road to recovery after being shot in the head; and

     WHEREAS, as a deputy officer, Brad faced dangerous, deadly situations that demanded he put his life on the line every day, and September 5, 2019, was no different as he fearlessly and bravely rushed to a potential hostage situation in the northeast part of Madison County; and

     WHEREAS, as deputies arrived on the scene, the suspect fled in his vehicle, and after a high speed pursuit, he crashed his vehicle and attempted to flee while firing multiple shots with a fully automatic weapon at the deputies pursuing him, including Deputy Brad Sullivan; and

     WHEREAS, the son of Ricky and Patricia Sullivan, Deputy Sullivan was rushed to the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where he was awake and responding but listed in critical condition; and

     WHEREAS, a graduate of Nanih Waiya High School, Deputy Sullivan attended the Mississippi Law Enforcement Academy and graduated in 2006, and shortly thereafter, he became a deputy with the Madison County Sheriff's Office; and

     WHEREAS, despite knowing the risks involved with his line of work, Deputy Sullivan never wavered in his decision to put on his uniform every morning and drive to his job, a job that required him to put his own life on the line in order to maintain order, keep the peace, apprehend dangerous criminals, safeguard the American system of justice and ultimately protect the country he loved; and 

     WHEREAS, the father of Madison and Wyatt Sullivan, Deputy Sullivan is taking baby steps every day on his road to recovery, and every day he improves moves him closer and closer to being back on the red, dusty diamond coaching his son's baseball team, Mayhem; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to pay tribute to fine, heroic Mississippians such as Madison County Sheriff Deputy Brad Sullivan, whose dauntless fortitude and unwavering courage remain steadfast despite life's obstacles, motivating and inspiring the Winston and Madison County communities and the people of the great State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby recognize and commend the inspirational heroism of Madison County Sheriff Deputy Brad Sullivan while in the line of duty, and extend our most sincere wishes for continued success during his recovery and in all of his future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Deputy Brad Sullivan and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
