A RESOLUTION TO COMMEND SENATOR BILLY HUDSON FOR HIS DISTINGUISHED SERVICE IN THE MISSISSIPPI SENATE.
WHEREAS, Senator Billy Hudson, R-Hattiesburg, is retiring from the Mississippi Senate after serving 12 years (2008-present); and
WHEREAS, Senator Billy Hudson is a businessman of integrity and hard work with a complete knowledge of Mississippi's agricultural interests, and there is an acknowledged respect of our esteemed colleague, gentleman and enlightened lawmaker; and
WHEREAS, Senator Hudson attended The University of Southern Mississippi; he also attended the University of Arizona and Perkinston Junior College in 1957. His professional experience includes working as a rancher, and previously serving as the CEO of Hudson Salvage; and
WHEREAS, Senator Hudson represents District 45, which consists of portions of Forrest and Perry Counties. Hudson served as a Magee City Alderman. He also served as a member and Chair of the Forrest County Supervisors, and his knowledge of local government was extremely beneficial to the Mississippi Senate; and
WHEREAS, at the beginning of the 2015 legislative session, Hudson served on the following committees: Agriculture, Chair; County Affairs, Vice Chair; Environmental Protection, Conservation and Water Resources; Finance; Highways and Transportation; Labor; Rules; and Universities and Colleges; and
WHEREAS, Senator Hudson and his wife, Barbara, have five children; and
WHEREAS, "I have enjoyed being in the Senate and I love public service, but my wife and I have made 571 trips to Jackson and counting over the last 11 years," Senator Hudson said. "I love making a difference. The people of Forrest County have been really good to me, but I am ready to come home and do something locally." Hudson, 80, made the announcement Monday at the Forrest County Board of Supervisors meeting; and
WHEREAS, Senator Joey Fillingane, R-Sumrall, said he has enjoyed working with Hudson. "I have been privileged to have served alongside Senator Hudson over the last two terms," Fillingane said. "As Agriculture Chair, he did a great job representing our state's agricultural interest, which is still the No. 1 sector of our economy. That is pertinent to the farmers in our districts and to the entire state"; and
WHEREAS, Senator Hudson's service has been marked by his commitment to success and recognized leadership, sound judgment and fairness. He has set the highest standard in all his many roles, as a father, husband, businessman, citizen, statesman and leader in the Mississippi Senate and as a true friend:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and recognize Senator Billy Hudson, whose outstanding service enriched everyone with whom he was associated, and we wish Billy and his family much success in their future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Senator Billy Hudson and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
