A RESOLUTION TO COMMEND AND RECOGNIZE DISTRICT 3 STATE SENATOR NICKEY BROWNING FOR HIS DISTINGUISHED SERVICE IN THE MISSISSIPPI SENATE.

     WHEREAS, District 3 State Senator Nickey Browning has announced that he will not be seeking reelection.  He has represented Senate District 3, which includes portions of Benton, Pontotoc and Union Counties, for 24 years.  In Nickey Browning, the citizens of District 3 have had effective representation from a dedicated public servant with business experience; and

     WHEREAS, Senator Browning was elected to the Senate in 1996.  He is originally from Pontotoc and was born on July 19, 1951.  Nickey is a member of the Lions Club and is of the Methodist faith.  He is married to the former Brenda Smithey, and the couple have three children, Tracey, Jason and Brea Klair.  Nickey is very involved as an American Legion Baseball Coach and is a former Parks and Recreation Commissioner in his community; and

     WHEREAS, at the beginning of the 2015 legislative session, Senator Browning served on the following committees:  Forestry, Chair; Business and Financial Institutions; County Affairs; Drug Policy; Energy; Finance; Highways and Transportation; and Insurance; and

     WHEREAS, Senator Browning was an acknowledged expert in many areas of Mississippi government and was particularly knowledgeable in the details of county government, agency budgets and the legislative budget process.  He served on the Senate Rules Committee for many years; and

     WHEREAS, Senator Browning's service has been marked by his commitment to success and recognized leadership, sound judgment, civility, courtesy and fairness.  He has set the highest standard in all of his many roles:  husband, father, businessman, statesman, community leader and leader in the Mississippi Senate, and as a true friend.  Nickey's service honored both the Mississippi Senate and this great state that he loved and served:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and recognize District 3 State Senator Nickey Browning for his distinguished service in the Mississippi Senate.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Senator Nickey Browning and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
