A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION DESIGNATING MARCH 2019 AS "INTELLECTUAL AND DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES AWARENESS MONTH" IN MISSISSIPPI.

     WHEREAS, more than 47,000 citizens of the State of Mississippi have an intellectual or developmental disability; and

     WHEREAS, individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities, their families, friends, neighbors and co-workers, encourage everyone to focus on the abilities of all people; and

     WHEREAS, the most effective way to increase this awareness is through everyone's active participation in community activities and the openness to learn and acknowledge each individual's contribution; and

     WHEREAS, individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities are entitled to enjoy, participate in and share the same benefits, privileges and protection afforded other citizens of our state and nation; and

     WHEREAS, we encourage all citizens to support opportunities for individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities in our state that include full access to education, housing and recreation; and

     WHEREAS, individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities deserve total support, recognition and acceptance of all citizens of the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby designate March 2019 as "Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month" in Mississippi.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be made available to the Mississippi Department of Mental Health and the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
