A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE SIMPSON COUNTY ACADEMY "LADY COUGARS" GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM AND COACH LINDA DEAR FOR WINNING THE 2019 MAIS AAAA DIVISION II STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, we join the students, parents, faculty and administration of Simpson County Academy in Mendenhall, Mississippi, in congratulating the "Lady Cougars" Girls Basketball Team, Head Coach Linda Dear, and Assistant Coaches Chaucer Funchess, Brandi Giordano and Chris Caughman for winning the 2019 MAIS AAAA Division II State Championship; and

     WHEREAS, with a record of 31-8 the Lady Cougars won the District and State Championships; and

     WHEREAS, the following team members made tournament honors:  All-State Team:  Morgan Griffith, Alissa Grace Brewer, T.K Catchings and Alexis Sullivan; All-Star Team:  Morgan Griffith; and Overall State Team:  Morgan Griffith and Alissa Grace Brewer; and

     WHEREAS, the Simpson County "Lady Cougars" Girls Basketball Team 2019 State AAAA Division II Championship Roster is:  Gracie Bowen; Ma'Nia Womack; Alexis Sullivan; Mollie Jones; Ellie Hilton; Adeline Bond; Anna Claire Walker; Sabra Hubbard; Maddie Moody; TK Catchings; Morgan Griffith; Alissa Brewer; Gracie Giordano; Kristin Busby and Lauren Teater; and Head Coach Linda Dear; Assistant Coaches:  Chaucer Funchess, Brandi Giordano and Chris Caughman; Manager, Maura Pruitt; Scorekeeper, Gabi Prather; Stats, Beverly Baldwin; Water Girl, Charlye Bowen; and Video, Avery Crain; and

     WHEREAS, the mission of Simpson County Academy is to be a dynamic, independent educational institution dedicated to Christian values, academic excellence and athletic achievement.  The Academy provides a secure learning environment, state-of-the-art facilities, and a caring professional staff.  They instill in their students the values and skills necessary to successfully meet the challenges of the 21st Century; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize these student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Simpson County Academy "Lady Cougars" Girls Basketball Team and Coach Linda Dear for winning the 2019 MAIS AAAA Division II State Championship, and extend our best wishes to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors for future success.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Linda Dear for the team and Headmaster Billy W. Hankins, forwarded to the Simpson County Academy Board of Trustees, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
