A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE HERITAGE ACADEMY "PATRIOTS" BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM AND COACH RUSS WHITESIDE FOR WINNING THE MAIS OVERALL CHAMPIONSHIP, THEIR FIRST STATE CHAMPIONSHIP IN THE SCHOOL'S HISTORY.

     WHEREAS, on March 2, 2019, the Heritage Academy "Patriots" Boys Basketball Team defeated Hillcrest Christian for the boys title in the MAIS Overall State Tournament.  It was the Patriots' first Overall State Championship in the school's history; and

     WHEREAS, with a 35-4 record, the 2019 Patriots achieved the following titles:  AAA District II Champs, AAA North State Champs, AAA State Champs, and MAIS Overall Champs; and

     WHEREAS, Coach Russ Whiteside was AAA District II Coach of the Year and AAA State Coach of the Year, and Guard Moak Griffin made the MAIS Basketball All-Star Team; and

     WHEREAS, the Heritage Academy Varsity Boys Basketball 2018-2019 Overall Championship Team is:  Carter Putt, G; Moak Griffin, G; Adam Koussih, SF; Jared Long, F; Diego Torres, G; Steele Altmyer, G; Seth Swain, G; Gray Moore, F; Oliver Stratton, F; Davis Fitch, F; Gunnar Gale, F; Reid Huskison, G; Mack Howard, G; Jack Kizer, G; Graham Buxton, F; Cameron Bell, F; and Eli Acker, F; Coach Russ Whiteside; Assistant Coach Carter Holmes; Athletic Director Sean Harrison; Headmaster Dr. Greg Carlyle; Manager Leighton Whiteside; and Stats Anna Acker; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize these student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Heritage Academy "Patriots" Boys Basketball Team and Coach Russ Whiteside for winning the MAIS Overall Championship, their first State Championship in the school's history, and extend our best wishes to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors for continued success.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Russ Whiteside for the team and Headmaster Dr. Greg Carlyle, forwarded to the Heritage Academy Board of Trustees, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
