Senate Concurrent Resolution 515

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION EXTENDING THE CONDOLENCES OF THE LEGISLATURE TO THE BEREAVED FAMILY OF FORMER DIRECTOR OF THE LEGISLATIVE BUDGET OFFICE ROBERT (BOBBY) ABRAHAM GREENLEE OF PORT GIBSON, MISSISSIPPI, AND COMMENDING HIS LONG AND DEDICATED CAREER OF PUBLIC SERVICE.

     WHEREAS, it is with sadness that we note the passing of longtime Legislative Budget Office Director and dedicated public servant Robert (Bobby) Abraham Greenlee of Port Gibson, Mississippi, on October 25, 2018; and

     WHEREAS, Bobby was born in Jackson, Mississippi, on October 8, 1936.  He grew up in Hermanville, Mississippi, and graduated from Port Gibson High School.  Bobby then attended the University of Mississippi, where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.  He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration in 1959.  Bobby also served in the Mississippi Air National Guard; and

     WHEREAS, he was a longtime member of the Port Gibson United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School and was a Lay Delegate to the Methodist Conference; and

     WHEREAS, Bobby began work at the Commission of Budget and Accounting for the State of Mississippi in 1968 as Chief Accountant.  In 1973 he was promoted to Deputy Director and went on to work a total of 23 years for the Commission of Budget and Accounting.  He was promoted to the Director of the Legislative Budget Office in 1984 and continued in that position for over 15 years until his retirement on January 31, 2000.  During his career with the Legislative Budget Office, he observed the State General Fund budget increase from $254 Million for fiscal biennium in 1962-1964 to $3.6 Billion for fiscal year 2000; and

     WHEREAS, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert A. Greenlee of Hermanville, Mississippi, and his son, Robert Michael Greenlee, preceded Bobby in death.  Bobby is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Jane Wilder Greenlee; daughter, Susan South (Trey); son, Charles Greenlee (Brooke); brother, Dickie Greenlee (Vickie); and grandchildren:  Robert South, Amy South, Trey Michael South, Wilder Greenlee, Ross Greenlee and Michael Greenlee; and

     WHEREAS, Bobby was a beloved legislative employee and good friend and colleague to all who knew and worked with him.  His great and good spirit and remarkable intellect enriched the lives of all Mississippi legislators and of his colleagues, and he will be missed:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby extend the condolences of the Legislature to the bereaved family of former Director of the Legislative Budget Office Robert (Bobby) Abraham Greenlee of Port Gibson, Mississippi, and commend his long and dedicated career of public service.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to the surviving family of Bobby Greenlee, forwarded to the Legislative Budget Office, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
