House Resolution 77

A RESOLUTION MOURNING THE LOSS, COMMEMORATING THE LIFE AND LEGACY, AND COMMENDING THE SELFLESS HEROISM OF YOUNG MASTER CAM'RON TYRESE DOWELL AS AN EXPRESSION OF DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS UPON HIS PASSING.

WHEREAS, it is written in Psalm 139:13-16 - "For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them" - and such was the life and indelible imprint of Young Master Cam'Ron Tyrese Dowell, whose selfless act of heroism to rescue a childhood friend on Saturday, February 23, 2019, would be resolved in the ultimate sacrifice of his life on Tuesday, February 26, 2019, when the immaculate author and finisher of our soul's destiny, summoned him from earthly travailing to heavenly reward, and rendering great sorrow and loss to his family and friends; and

WHEREAS, the City of Clinton lost a stellar student, star athlete and admired friend, with the passing of "Cam," as he was affectionately referred to by his family and friends, who was born to Mrs. Chasity Daniels-Jones and Mr. Terrance Dowell, Jr., on July 9, 2003, and there is now a hush in our hearts as we come together to pay our respects to the memory of one who has been called to join that innumerable heavenly caravan; and

WHEREAS, heralded as a pure spirit with a pure soul, by his mother, who described him as being wise beyond his years, Cam'Ron was an ambassador of joy and light whose life reflected the sincerity and innocence of a youth trained up in the fear and admonition of the Lord as the giver and sustainer of life, and reconciled in these words recorded in Romans 14:8 - "For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord's"; and

WHEREAS, a God-fearing Christian before all other roles he assumed, "Cam" possessed an ambitious spirit akin to that of King David, and strove diligently to seek after the very heart of God and demonstrated great faith and commitment to Jesus Christ through his diligent service, as a member of Refreshing Rain Church of God in Christ, where he was a member of the youth choir, served the music department as youth drummer, and a member of the Junior Sunday School Class, all of which confirm the recording of Matthew 19:14 - "But Jesus said, 'Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of Heaven'"; and

WHEREAS, a sports aficionado and diehard Houston Rockets fan, "Cam," who dreamt of one day becoming a professional athlete, was a rising student athlete at Sumner Hill Junior High School, where he participated in football, basketball and track, and possessed a sneakers collection that rivaled any athletic shoe store's inventory, complete with retro Jordans; and

WHEREAS, though he has traversed the river of life to reunite in glorious fanfare with those loved ones who made life's transition to eternity before him, including his grandmother, Linda Daniels, aunt, Laquisha Daniels, and uncles, Tommie G. Jacobs and Larry Campbell, the legacy of Cam'Ron's meaningful and lasting impact upon our lives will continue to refresh the hearts and fond memories of his beloved survivors:  mother, Chasity Daniels-Jones (Darrell); father, Terrance Dowell, Jr.; paternal grandparents, Levella and Terrance Dowell, Sr.; three sisters, Tamari Dowell, Aniyah Dowell and Jaliyah Dowell; three brothers, Damarion Jones, Karter Jones and Jaiden Moore; grandfather, Herman Mack (Celestine); two great-grandmothers, Ruthie Lee Robinson and Estella Campbell; and a host of aunts, uncles, other relatives, classmates and very dear friends; and

WHEREAS, we encourage the family to take solace in these words recorded in 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 - "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God."; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to commend the life of a genuine and selfless individual as Cam'Ron Dowell, whose life's light, though prematurely extinguished like a candle in the wind, illuminated the path of hope, faith and righteousness for all he encountered along his brief earthly sojourn, as evidenced in James 4:14 - "For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away":

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby mourn the loss, commemorate the life and legacy, and commend the selfless heroism of Young Master Cam'Ron Tyrese Dowell, to whose family and friends we express sincere and deepest sympathy upon his passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Cam'Ron Tyrese Dowell and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
