A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF MR. WILLIAM GARBO AND EXPRESSING SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY UPON HIS PASSING.

     WHEREAS, "To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the Heaven," and as such Mr. William Garbo, a wonderful father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather passed this life on January 26, 2019, to rest eternally with his heavenly father and the love of his life, Patricia; and

     WHEREAS, a native of Laurel, Mississippi, he enlisted in the United States Army right out of high school, and was shipped out to the South Pacific as a member of the 26th War Dog Platoon after his stateside training; and

     WHEREAS, while conducting combat operations with the platoon in New Guinea, he was transferred to the 112th Calvary RCT with the rank of Sergeant, where he lead a machine gun squad; and

     WHEREAS, following combat operations in New Guinea, he made the landings at Leyte and Luzon, earning two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart along the way; and

     WHEREAS, he credits his time of enlistment as one of his best life decisions because this is the time period that he met the love of his life, Patricia, while he was in California training war dogs before they shipped out; and

     WHEREAS, upon returning from combat, Mr. Garbo returned to the states to earn his college degree in Landscape Architecture while in his 40s; and

     WHEREAS, his talent for landscape architecture earned him a nationally renowned reputation as a designer and restorer of historic antebellum gardens; and

     WHEREAS, an adventurer at heart, he remained very active well into his 60s and 70s by skiing and horse packing out west; and

     WHEREAS, to cherish his memory, he leaves eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to honor the lives of outstanding Mississippians such as Mr. Garbo who was dedicated to his family and work to preserve our historic landscape:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the life and legacy of Mr. William Garbo, and express deepest sympathy to his family upon his passing.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Mr. William Garbo and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
