House Resolution 39

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING KYLIE JOINER OF DECATUR, MISSISSIPPI, FOR BEING NAMED THE 2018 STATE GAMES OF MISSISSIPPI "FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR."

WHEREAS, each year, the State Games of Mississippi recognizes an outstanding male and female athlete from each of the 37 individual sports, nominated based on their merit and sportsmanship by coaches, officials, athletes, volunteers and spectators, but only three athletes are chosen to receive the elite honor of "Athlete of the Year"; and

WHEREAS, Kylie Joiner of Decatur, Mississippi, was named this year's "Female Athlete of the Year," as she personifies the ideals of the State Games' movement, such as participation, sportsmanship, special attributes, achievements, efforts and positive attitudes; and

WHEREAS, a true competitor at heart, Kylie has participated in the State Games of Mississippi for 20 years, and during her tenure, she has won a gold medal in softball, the 5K race and the trail run and a silver medal in soccer; and

WHEREAS, while she was a student at West Lauderdale High School in Meridian, Mississippi, Kylie excelled as an athlete, finishing as a state finalist in soccer and winning a state championship in softball; and

WHEREAS, upon her graduation from West Lauderdale, Kylie embarked upon her collegiate journey, proving to all that she was comprised of not only immense athletic prowess but also a vast intellect and mind for business when she received her undergraduate degree from the University of Southern Mississippi and her master's degree from Mississippi State University; and

WHEREAS, in addition to her role as Female Athlete of the Year, Kylie is a certified public accountant (CPA) with the State of Mississippi Department of Audit, where she benefits the state daily with her attention to detail and keen analysis; and

WHEREAS, Kylie Joiner is an excellent role model for a balanced and healthy lifestyle, and she is the perfect example of the fitness and dedication that the State Games of Mississippi promotes; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend outstanding Mississippi athletes, especially those such as Kylie Joiner, who has exceeded all expectations of greatness and brought honor to the Cities of Meridian and Decatur and to the great Magnolia State:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Kylie Joiner of Decatur, Mississippi, for being named the 2018 State Games of Mississippi "Female Athlete of the Year" and express best wishes for continued success in all of her future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Kylie Joiner and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
