House Concurrent Resolution 56

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE ST. ALOYSIUS HIGH SCHOOL LADY FLASHES SOCCER TEAM AND HEAD COACH JESSICA TATE FOR WINNING THEIR SECOND MISSISSIPPI ASSOCIATION OF INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS DIVISION III STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, the St. Aloysius High School Lady Flashes Soccer Team finished the season with their second state title in four years when they reigned victorious at the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools (MAIS) Division III Girls Soccer State Championship; and

WHEREAS, playing with clear eyes, full hearts and unimaginable amounts of strength, the Lady Flashes Soccer Team outlasted, outplayed and ultimately overpowered the Bayou Academy Colts despite ending the regulation period with a 0-0 score; and

WHEREAS, after a scoreless 90 minutes that left fans on the edge of their seats, St. Aloysius entered the overtime period with shuttered breath, and after one ten-minute overtime period ended with no score, they broke away three minutes into the second period; and

WHEREAS, freshman midfielder Elizabeth Theriot scored the game-winning lone point when a rebound shot deflected off of a Bayou Academy player and into the net, and after that, Bayou never had an opportunity to score an equalizer thanks to the stone wall erected by the grit, fortitude and determination of the Lady Flashes' defense and goal keeper Cameron Mathis; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Flashes team statistics were impressive, and there were outstanding headers, strikes, penalty kicks and goals by individual players, but the key to this team's consistent success has been the constant team atmosphere and year-round hard work; and

WHEREAS, the 2018 St. Aloysius High School Lady Flashes Championship roster is comprised of the following athletes: seniors, Anna Katherine Beauchamp, Brantlee Richards and Lexi Varner; juniors, Molly Jo Derivaux, Madisyn Miller, Jaleigh Ehrgott, Cameron Mathis, Clair Jamison and Cami Ghrigsby; sophomores, Anna Scott Geter, Samantha Graves and Addie Dickerson; freshmen, Elizabeth Theriot, Cati Mathews and Meg McDaniel; eighth graders, Madi Mathews and Madeyln Roesch; and seventh graders, Grace Windham, Lily Perniciaro and Kennedy May; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Flashes have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Jessica Tate, who has broadened the Lady Flashes' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

WHEREAS, Coach Tate continues to build upon the legacy of superior play and true sportsmanship forged by the tenacious and undaunted spirit of each team member, as evidenced in their ability to produce high caliber players and plays and the team's successful season; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend the superb accomplishments of Mississippi student-athletes, especially those such as the St. Aloysius High School Lady Flashes Soccer Team, whose excellence on the field brings honor and glory to their community and the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the St. Aloysius High School Lady Flashes Soccer Team and Head Coach Jessica Tate for winning their second Mississippi Association of Independent Schools Division III State Championship, and extend best wishes to the team and coaches for continued success in all of their future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Head Coach Jessica Tate and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
