A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE DISTINGUISHED CAREER AND MERITORIOUS LEADERSHIP AND SERVICE THAT MR. BOBBY MOONEY HAS PROVIDED FOR 40 YEARS AND CONTINUES TO PROVIDE AS THE ALDERMAN AT LARGE FOR COLLINS, MISSISSIPPI.

WHEREAS, Bobby Mooney, the Alderman at Large of Collins, Mississippi, and community leader extraordinaire, has selflessly dedicated 40 years of illustrious service and competent guidance to the wonderful people of Collins; and

WHEREAS, in 1979, Bobby Mooney, then an employee in the city's electrical department, defeated nine opponents in a special election for a seat on the Collins Board of Aldermen and is now one of the longest serving municipal officials in the State of Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Mooney has made it his mission and the focus of his office that all services of the City of Collins are available to everyone, regardless of wealth or race; and

WHEREAS, he was instrumental in securing a police and fire station for the City of Collins, as they had both been operating out of the maintenance department prior to his election; and

WHEREAS, he was a vocal proponent of constructing a park and recreational facilities, and in procuring grants and funding for assisting those who were at or near homelessness to have a roof over their heads; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Mooney has completed advanced training of the Mississippi Municipal League and is now a certified municipal officer; and

WHEREAS, the City of Collins is a better place due to Mr. Mooney's service; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend the tireless devotion of its public servants, including Mr. Bobby Mooney, one of the longest serving elected officials in the state:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the distinguished career and meritorious leadership and service that Mr. Bobby Mooney has provided for 40 years and continues to provide as the Alderman at Large for Collins, Mississippi, and extend sincere wishes for continued success in all of his future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Bobby Mooney and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
