House Bill 780

AN ACT TO GUARANTEE MISSISSIPPIANS THE RIGHT TO POSSESS AND PEACEFULLY DISPLAY THE OFFICIAL FLAG OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI AT PUBLIC VENUES AND EVENTS; TO PROHIBIT LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS AND OTHER OFFICIALS FROM CONFISCATING STATE FLAGS AT PUBLIC VENUES AND EVENTS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  Citizens of the State of Mississippi are guaranteed the right to possess and peacefully display the official flag of the State of Mississippi at any public facility, venue, gathering or event.  A law enforcement officer, security officer, public or private official, or representative of an organization affiliated with an event open to the public or a facility or premises, whether public or private, to which members of the public are invited may not confiscate or require any citizen to conceal an official State of Mississippi flag of any size.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2019.
