AN ACT TO REQUIRE THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION TO EMPLOY A DYSLEXIA COORDINATOR IN EACH SCHOOL DISTRICT; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  The State Department of Education shall employ, in each school district, a Dyslexia Coordinator who has been trained in an Orton-Gillingham based dyslexia therapy program attaining an AA license in dyslexia therapy issued by the department.  The coordinator's responsibilities shall include the oversight of the administration of the Mississippi Dyslexia Therapy Scholarship for Students with Dyslexia Program on the district level and to coordinate with the department in the development and establishment of a curriculum for students, facilitate the screening process, and assist students and parents in the process of qualifying and submitting application for scholarships.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2019.
