A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE ST. ANDREW'S EPISCOPAL SCHOOL "SAINTS" BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM AND COACH BRIAN CRONIN FOR WINNING THEIR FIRST 3A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP IN SCHOOL HISTORY.

     WHEREAS, with St. Andrew's "Saints" Boys Basketball Team trailing Holly Springs by three early in the fourth, Garrison Wade sprinted up and jumped for the ball five feet above him for the putback dunk.  This would be his game.  Wade then scored eight unanswered points and 10 of St. Andrew's next 11.  He grabbed every rebound and finished every crucial play to lead St. Andrew's to a 48-42 victory to win the 3A State Championship, the first in school history; and

     WHEREAS, Coach Brian Cronin would not tell reporters what he said to Garrison Wade at halftime, just that he told him they needed him to score.  Wade finished with 19 points, 19 rebounds and three blocks to end his high school career; and

     WHEREAS, Assistant Coach JeMario Rugley's father, Gus, taught him competitiveness and character, and Rugley said Gus was watching over this St. Andrew's team the whole season.  He thanked his players for ending the challenging year with a title.  "They did it for themselves.  They did it for St. Andrew's, and they said they were gonna do it for my dad, and they did that," Rugley said; and

     WHEREAS, St. Andrew's Head Coach Brian Cronin and Garrison Wade celebrated after defeating Holly Springs to win the 3A State Title, two guys who just made their place in St. Andrew's history; and

     WHEREAS, the 2018 St. Andrew's Episcopal High School "Saints" Boys Basketball Team Championship Roster is:  Nolan Turner, G; Rashad Bolden, G; Aaron Cooper, G; Fletcher Clark, G; Lleyton Carr, G; Hudson Bataille, G; William Harkless, G; Hughes Boling, G; Garrison Wade, G; Larry Day, G; Walter Johnson, C; Arness Georgetown, C; Noel Wiggs, C; Michael John Davis, C; and Guanyang (Gary) Gao, C; Head Coach Brian Cronin; Assistant Coaches:  Ontario Harper, Michael Timmer and JeMario Rugley; Managers Jonathan Buckley and Wynn Garriga; and Athletic Director DeWayne Cupples; and

     WHEREAS, St. Andrew's Episcopal School offers more than just an education, they offer a nurturing and challenging community that feels more like a family than just a school, a community of growth, shared learning, critical thinking, and positive change; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this special group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the St. Andrew's Episcopal School "Saints" Boys Basketball Team and Coach Brian Cronin for winning their first 3A State Championship in school history, and extend to the players, coaches, parents and sponsors our best wishes for future success.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Brian Cronin and Head of School Dr. George Penick, forwarded to the St. Andrew's Board of Trustees, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
