Senate Concurrent Resolution 506

(As Adopted by Senate and House)

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE ST. MARTIN HIGH SCHOOL "JACKETTES" VARSITY DANCE TEAM AND COACH AMBER RIVERA FOR WINNING THE MHSAA SMALL JAZZ DIVISION STATE TITLE.

WHEREAS, the St. Martin High School "Jackettes" Varsity Dance Team won its second straight State Title in the Small Jazz Division during the State Competition in Jackson on December 15, 2017; and

WHEREAS, the Championship was the Jackettes' second straight win under Head Coach Amber Rivera.  "You know what you are up against before you get there.  We knew we had a lot of really good competition, including Bay High and Pearl River Central.  I think we were both excited and shocked."  Making the St. Martin win all the more impressive is that they competed without one of their dancers, who was injured during practice the night before the competition; and

WHEREAS, St. Martin competed in the Small Jazz Division, one of four divisions set up for the State Competition; and

WHEREAS, members of the St. Martin High School Squad are:  seniors:  Damion Seymour and Azlyn Argiuelles; junior Kyleigh Wilson; sophomores:  Lanie Forehand, Olivia Lopez, Alyssa Reed and Erin Schreck; and freshman Jaclyn McCoy.  Coach Rivera also credited Choreographer/Instructor Kimberly Bourgeois-Fay of Infinity Dance Company in Ocean Springs for her work with the dancers; and it is with great pride that we recognize these student athletes who have brought pride to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the St. Martin High School "Jackettes" Varsity Dance Team and Coach Amber Rivera for winning the MHSAA Small Jazz Division State Title and extend our best wishes to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors for future success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Rivera, forwarded to St. Martin High School Principal Dina Holland and the Jackson County School Board, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
