AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 37-15-6, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO REQUIRE THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION TO DEVELOP A CENTRAL REPORTING SYSTEM TO BE USED BY SCHOOL DISTRICTS FOR THE MANDATORY REPORTING TO THE DEPARTMENT OF ALL DATA REQUIRED BY FEDERAL LAW TO BE REPORTED TO THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION OFFICE FOR CIVIL RIGHTS; TO REQUIRE THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION AND SCHOOL DISTRICTS AND CHARTER SCHOOLS TO PUBLISH SAID INFORMATION ON THEIR RESPECTIVE WEBSITES; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. Section 37-15-6, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:
37-15-6. For the purpose of
providing notice to public and private school officials, both within and
outside the boundaries of the state, of * * * information
that is in the public interest, the State Department of Education * * * shall develop a central reporting
system for maintaining information concerning * * * all
data required by federal law to be reported to the United States Department of
Education Office for Civil Rights. In establishing and maintaining the state
reporting system, the * * * State Department of Education shall require
each school district and charter school to report, * * * no later than July 1 of each year,
all information * * *
that is required
to be reported to the United States Department of Education Office for Civil
Rights. Both the State Department of Education and each school district or
charter school shall publish this information, in a searchable and publicly
accessible format, on its respective website.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2018.
