AN ACT TO REQUIRE THE JOINT LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE ON PERFORMANCE EVALUATION AND EXPENDITURE REVIEW (PEER) TO CONDUCT AN ANNUAL EXPENDITURE REVIEW OF FUNDS EXPENDED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF CHILD PROTECTION SERVICES AND THE DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SERVICES FOR THE DELIVERY OF CHILD PROTECTION SERVICES FOR THE PERIOD JULY 1, 2016, TO JUNE 30, 2018; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  (1)  The Joint Committee on Performance Evaluation and Expenditure Review (PEER) shall conduct a review of all funds expended by the Department of Human Services and the Department of Child Protection Services for the purpose of providing child protection services to the children of the State of Mississippi for the period July 1, 2016, to June 30, 2018.

     (2)  This review shall be completed by December 31, 2018, and delivered to the Speaker of the Mississippi House of Representatives, the Lieutenant Governor, the Chairs of the House and Senate Appropriations Committees, the Chair of the House Public Health and Human Services Committee, the Chair of the House Performance-Based Budget Committee, and the Chair of the Senate Public Health and Welfare Committee.

     (3)  This review and evaluation shall be updated annually and delivered to the above-named committees on an annual basis by December 31 following the initial review in 2018.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2018.
