House Resolution 74

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE KIRK ACADEMY RAIDERETTES GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM FOR WINNING THE MAIS OVERALL STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT AND FOR AN OUTSTANDING SEASON.

WHEREAS, the Kirk Academy Raiderettes Girls Basketball Team reigned victorious at the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools (MAIS) Overall State Championship Tournament against Leake Academy with a 48-41 win; and

WHEREAS, playing with full hearts and unimaginable amounts of finesse and might, the Raiderettes outplayed and ultimately outlasted Leake Academy, bringing the overall state championship trophy back to Kirk Academy after 30 years; and

WHEREAS, with tremendous dedication and fortitude, the Raiderettes invested countless hours of hard work throughout the season and strived to win with unparalleled motivation and fervent determination during the championship game, and their mental stamina and athletic prowess never wavered from the moment they stepped onto the court until the end of the game signaled their victory; and

WHEREAS, the Raiderettes finished their outstanding season with a 38-3 record, in which they won the District and the District Tournament and beat their opponents by a margin of 52 points, and the key to their success was the tremendous team spirit and year-round hard work by the following talented student-athletes: Carley Hudspeth, Annie Box, Elizabeth Taylor, Morgan Claire Rose, Tori Tutor, Macie Hames, Campbell Thomas, Anna Grace Fly, Haley McWhorter, Lily Gober, Lexie Draper and Abby Grace Campbell; and

WHEREAS, the Raiderettes were exceptionally coached and tremendously inspired by Head Coach Amy C. Denley and Assistant Coach Greg Denley, who broadened the team's knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend the superb accomplishments of Mississippi student-athletes, especially those such as the Kirk Academy Raiderettes Girls Basketball Team, whose determination and excellence on the court bring honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the Kirk Academy Raiderettes Girls Basketball Team for winning the MAIS Overall State Championship Tournament and for an outstanding season and extend best wishes for success in all of their future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Head Coach Amy C. Denley and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
