A RESOLUTION COMMENDING MRS. BETTY STAPLES FOR HER REMARKABLE DEDICATION AND SERVICE TO THE MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES BY MAKING HER DELICIOUS BAKED GOODS FOR THEM DURING EACH LEGISLATIVE SESSION.

     WHEREAS, for the past nine years, Mrs. Betty Staples, wife of Representative Gary Staples, has dedicated her time and excellent culinary skills to making baked goods for the members of the House of Representatives during each legislative session; and

     WHEREAS, what started in 2009 as baking once each legislative session has grown tremendously over the years, and now Mrs. Staples makes her baked goods twice a week each session, and each year, the House members look forward to her tasty sweets; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Staples bakes a variety of scrumptious treats for the House members, and they love and appreciate anything she sends with Representative Staples to the Capitol, but their favorites are her sugar cookies, chocolate chip cookies and chocolate Oreo brownies; and

     WHEREAS, throughout her life, Mrs. Staples has always loved baking and cooking, and 20 years ago, she began a baked goods business called Aunt B's Kitchen in Laurel, Mississippi, which started with a delicious item called "Bread in a Jar," and she currently sells a few items through David's Grocery in Myrick, Mississippi, and also makes a few items upon request; and

     WHEREAS, outside of baking for the House members, Mrs. Staples loves to make spaghetti, stuffed chicken breasts and a variety of sweets for her husband and she also enjoys trying new and unusual recipes, sharing recipes with friends and taking her baked goods to those that are homebound; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to commend marvelous Mississippians, especially those such as Mrs. Betty Staples, whose superb dedication and tremendous service to the House of Representatives brings honor to her family, her community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend Mrs. Betty Staples for her remarkable dedication and service to the members of the House of Representatives by making her delicious baked goods for us during each legislative session, and extend sincere wishes for her continued success in all of her future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mrs. Betty Staples and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
