A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MR. JOSHUA CAVANAUGH FOR BEING HONORED WITH THE AWARD FOR UNITED SOCCER COACHES 2017 REGIONAL COACH OF THE YEAR FOR HIGH SCHOOL BOYS

- SMALL SCHOOLS - WINTER REGION.

     WHEREAS, Mr. Joshua Cavanaugh was honored with the award for United Soccer Coaches 2017 Regional Coach of the Year for High School Boys - Small Schools - Winter Region at the United Soccer Coaches of America National Convention in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on January 20, 2018; and

     WHEREAS, this distinguished national/regional honor is given to one small school coach from the winter region of the United States, with the winter region including the states of Mississippi, Florida, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Louisiana and Texas; and

     WHEREAS, in his fifth year as the head boys soccer coach at Florence High School, and his tenth year overall at the school, Coach Cavanaugh has also received other distinguished honors and awards, including the Mississippi Association of Coaches, Coach of the Year for 2017 and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, Mississippi Small School Coach of the Year for 2017; and

     WHEREAS, before being the head coach of the boys soccer team, Coach Cavanaugh was an assistant at Florence High School for five years, and he helped the team earn its way to a Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Boys 4A State Title in 2011 and also helped the girls team win two MHSAA Girls 4A State Titles in 2012 and 2013, and remarkably, in his first year as head coach, Coach Cavanaugh led the boys soccer team to the 2017 MHSAA 4A State Championship; and

     WHEREAS, Coach Cavanaugh is a graduate of Florence High School, where he was a member of the 1998 MHSAA Class II State Championship Team and the 2000 MHSAA 4A Boys State Championship Team, and is the son of William Edward Cavanaugh and Betty McGuffee Cavanaugh, and is married to Lisa Alford Cavanaugh and is the father of Charles Elijah-Edward Cavanaugh and Pearson

Gabriel-Lewis Cavanaugh; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend fine Mississippians such as Mr. Joshua Cavanaugh, who are dedicated to helping student-athletes reach their fullest potential and who have brought honor to their school, community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Mr. Joshua Cavanaugh for being honored with the award for United Soccer Coaches 2017 Regional Coach of the Year for High School Boys - Small Schools - Winter Region, and extend sincere wishes for continued success in all of his future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Joshua Cavanaugh and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
