House Concurrent Resolution 86

(As Adopted by House and Senate)

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION DECLARING MARCH 2018 AS WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH AND MARCH 19, 2018, AS MISSISSIPPI CELEBRATING WOMEN IN PUBLIC OFFICE DAY.

WHEREAS, the month of March is Women's History Month and celebrates the significant contributions women of all races, ethnicities, and backgrounds have made to the world; and

WHEREAS, women play a critical role in the vitality and diversity of our communities, and are essential to ensuring Mississippi is well-represented; and

WHEREAS, while the twentieth century was a pivotal time of growth for women entering politics, women remain under represented in male-dominated fields, and thus, providing opportunities to support women in public office is imperative; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize women in public office and bring awareness to the fundamental necessity of their hard work that will inspire other young people to serve in their communities:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby declare March 19, 2018, to be Mississippi Celebrating Women in Public Office Day and call upon the people of Mississippi to unite as we support the success of women in public office and observe March 19, 2018, with appropriate activities, events and programs.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
