AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE MISSISSIPPI TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION TO RECEIVE PAYMENT FROM ITS CONTRACTORS FOR THE ENFORCEMENT OF TRAFFIC LAWS IN CERTAIN WORK ZONES; TO AUTHORIZE THE USE OF GOVERNMENT PERSONNEL AND ASSETS UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. The Mississippi Transportation Commission may, in its discretion, require that its contractors provide payment for law enforcement officers to perform work-zone safety operations which the commission determines are on high-volume roadways or on high-risk projects. A law enforcement officer may only provide work-zone safety operations in locations that are within the jurisdiction of the governmental entity employing that officer. A governmental entity may approve the use of its law enforcement agency in connection with the work authorized in this section, provided that salaries and mileage will be reimbursed to the law enforcement agency or other governmental entity providing the service at the pay rate negotiated between the contractors, the Mississippi Department of Transportation, and the governmental entity providing the service.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
