A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING THE LEGACY OF LEADERSHIP AND PUBLIC SERVICE OF MARY HOUSTON, THE FIRST FEMALE MAYOR OF THE TOWN OF POTTS CAMP, MISSISSIPPI, AS SHE RETIRES FROM OFFICE.
WHEREAS, Potts Camp Mayor Mary Houston has announced that she will not seek reelection. She has been a wonderful example for public servants; and
WHEREAS, Mary Houston, the first female Mayor of the Town of Potts Camp, began her service to the town as an Alderwoman in 2008. She began serving as Mayor in 2011 and was reelected to the office in 2013; and
WHEREAS, her term as Alderwoman was not the first time she served the public of Marshall County. She has worked in several retail and public establishments in the county, including the Marshall County Chancery Clerk's office; and
WHEREAS, Mary is known in part for her strong work ethic. Throughout her service to the town, she has maintained a full-time job. Still, she is present at town hall every afternoon before beginning work and is involved in a number of events; and
WHEREAS, Mary and her husband James have three children, 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She is a member of Reid's Gift Baptist Church and is a graduate of Holly Springs High School; and it is with great pride that we commend this record of achievement and dedication to all citizens in Marshall County, Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby recognize the legacy of leadership and public service of Mary Houston, the first female Mayor of the Town of Potts Camp, Mississippi, as she retires from office, and extend to Mary and her family our best wishes for future success.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Mayor Mary Houston, forwarded to the Potts Camp Board of Aldermen, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
