AMENDMENT NO 1 PROPOSED TO

     AMEND after line 126 by inserting the following new section and renumbering the succeeding section:

     SECTION 3.  Each state, county, and municipal agency or department that employs a peace officer or firefighter as defined in Section 1 of this act and whose salary or compensation is not specifically provided for in the statute shall provide no less than a ten percent increase in salary to each peace officer and firefighter within six (6) months of the effective date of this act.  The salary increase authorized by this section shall be at least ten percent above the amount that such peace officer or firefighter was receiving on July 1, 2017.  Each state, county, and municipal agency or department that employs a peace officer or firefighter may increase such salaries by more than ten percent if the agency or department so chooses. This section shall not be construed.
