A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION TO JOIN THE CITIZENS OF TUPELO, MISSISSIPPI, IN RECOGNIZING THE BREVARD FAMILY B & B CONCRETE CO., INC., UPON ITS RECEIPT OF THE REGIONAL REHABILITATION CENTER JOHN "RED" RASBERRY HUMANITARIAN AWARD.

     WHEREAS, incorporated in 1961, the Regional Rehabilitation Center in Tupelo, Mississippi, has continued to be supportive of and supported by the community.  The Rehab Center offers Speech Therapy, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Audiological services, and Early Intervention services at no cost to the individual clients.  A full range of disabilities is treated in an outpatient, long-term care facility to clients ranging in age from pediatric to geriatric; and

     WHEREAS, each year the Regional Rehab Center holds the "Red Rasberry Humanitarian Awards Dinner" for the presentation of an important community service award to a member of the Northeast Mississippi community.  John "Red" Rasberry was a veteran who was a popular Lee County Chancery Clerk.  He was elected at the age of 32 and served five terms (20 years).  He decided not to seek reelection in 1968, devoting all his time to the Regional Rehabilitation Center.  He was instrumental, along with other community leaders, in building the Regional Rehabilitation Center.  Funds were raised yearly by many methods with a major fundraiser being the Radiothon and/or Telethon each year.  Red served as Executive Director for 38 years.  On September 30, 1995, he retired at the age of 78; and

     WHEREAS, the 2010 Red Rasberry Humanitarian Honoree is the Brevard Family of B & B Concrete.  B & B Concrete Co., Inc., was founded in the fall of 1949 by Henry Brevard, Jr., and his father-in-law Riley Boozer.  B & B Concrete Co., Inc., built three new concrete plants to serve the growing area surrounding Tupelo and Lee County.  Plants in Okolona (1968), Pontotoc (1976), and Verona (1978) were opened.  During the 1980's the company's service area for ready-mix concrete expanded at a faster pace.  New plant locations opened in Oxford (1982), Ripley (1986), Saltillo (1987), Holly Springs (1987), and New Albany (1989).  Booneville and Corinth plants (1994) joined the B & B Concrete Co., Inc., system followed by Blue Springs (2008) and Fulton (2011).  This outstanding corporate citizen supports and works with citizens and organizations within our business service area, and the programs of Northeast Mississippi civic, nonprofit, and educational institutions including the Regional Rehabilitation Center.  The success and growth of B & B Concrete Co., Inc., is an ongoing team effort.  The strong work ethic and performance of both past and current employees have developed many loyal customer relationships; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we commend this record of achievement and legacy of community leadership and dedication by a leading corporate citizen of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby recognize the Brevard Family B & B Concrete Co., Inc., upon its receipt of the Regional Rehabilitation Center John "Red" Rasberry Humanitarian Award, and extend our best wishes on this auspicious occasion.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to the Brevard Family, the Regional Rehab Center in Tupelo, Mississippi, and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
