A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND CONGRATULATING WINSTON ACADEMY 8TH GRADER DEV JAISWAL FOR WINNING THE 2015 MISSISSIPPI SPELLING BEE HELD AT MISSISSIPPI PUBLIC BROADCASTING.

     WHEREAS, an 8th Grader from Winston Academy in Louisville, Mississippi, is Mississippi's 2015 Spelling Bee Champion held March 17, 2015, at Mississippi Public Broadcasting; and

     WHEREAS, Dev Jaiswal spelled the Championship word "eleatic" in the 29th round of the Bee.  He will now get the chance to compete in the 88th Annual Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., against Spelling Bee Champions from other states; and

     WHEREAS, "eleatic" is a word relating to a school of Greek philosophy.  Jaiswal said he had never heard the word before, but asked the origin of the word and drew on his knowledge of Greek word rules to make a guess; and

     WHEREAS, twenty-six students from across Mississippi competed for the title; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we commend a young Mississippian whose achievement is a wonderful example for all students in our state:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby recognize and congratulate Winston Academy 8th Grader Dev Jaiswal for winning the 2015 Mississippi Spelling Bee held at Mississippi Public Broadcasting, and extend our best wishes to Jaiswal and his family on this impressive achievement.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Dev Jaiswal and his family, forwarded to the Board of Trustees of Winston Academy, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
