A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE OCEAN SPRINGS HIGH SCHOOL GREYHOUNDS CHEERLEADING TEAM AND COACH KELLY PILGER FOR WINNING THE 2012-2013 MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION LARGE VARSITY DIVISION STATE CHEERLEADING CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, the Ocean Springs High School Greyhounds Cheerleading Team competed against several other squads in the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) State Cheerleading Championship, and after their superb performance, they captured the Large Varsity Division State Cheerleading Championship; and

     WHEREAS, this year the Ocean Springs High School Cheerleaders solidified their rise to championship status by continuing the precedent they established at regional competition to reach the state championship competition and lay claim to its third consecutive championship title; and

     WHEREAS, during the competition, the cheerleaders performed a routine to precision for the judges which consisted of tumbling and difficult stunts designed for their strong points, and they nailed the routine with their best-ever performance of it; and

     WHEREAS, under the superb leadership of Coach Kelly Pilger, who has refined their skills in execution, acrobatics and dance, the team did an exceptional job of covering each other's faults, unifying all of their strengths to make a good squad, and they did a really awesome job working toward the accomplishment of this highly pursued goal; and

     WHEREAS, during this special season, the Ocean Springs cheerleaders worked extremely hard, practicing five days a week to succeed, learning and perfecting football and basketball cheers for the games; and

     WHEREAS, through their superior accomplishments, these Magnolia State student athletes have brought honor to themselves and to Ocean Springs High School; and

     WHEREAS, the members of the Ocean Springs High School cheerleading squad are:  Patience Allen, Diamond Byrd, Emily Cumberland, Sarah Davis, Destany Farmer, Kylie Hungerford, Anna Catherine Melchi, Ahmiah Wilder, Madison Zuber, Kaitlyn Comeaux, Makenzie Davis, Jasmine Gerald, Katelyn Harmon, Remington James, Megan Jones, Abbey Langley, Jordan Reed, Carlie Reichel, Erica Rushing,  Maria Skrmetti, Lindsay Streiff, Candace Vincent, Nicole Broussard, Mary Beth Burton, Paige Conner, Myranda Gallagher, Olivia Hosey, Tiffany Johnson, Addison Wade, Laura Weems, Samantha Weems, Anna Claire Allison, Leslie Anderson, Katelyn Bishop, Alyssa Chavez, Mary Katherine Mattiace, Samantha Moeller, Melissa Reid, Hali Saylor, Karisma Slusher and Alexis Witcher; and

     WHEREAS, the Greyhound Cheerleaders have practiced and worked together for many hours in the pursuit of excellence and have shown a high degree of sportsmanship while representing the State of Mississippi on the national and international levels; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend outstanding student athletes such as the Ocean Springs High School cheerleading team:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Ocean Springs High School Greyhounds Cheerleading Team and Coach Kelly Pilger for winning the 2012-2013 MHSAA Large Varsity Division State Cheerleading Championship, and extend best wishes for continued success in all of their future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Ocean Springs High School, Coach Kelly Pilger, to each member of the Greyhounds Cheerleading Team and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
