House Concurrent Resolution 54

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE OCEAN SPRINGS HIGH SCHOOL DANCE TEAM AND COACH KIM PERRY FOR WINNING THE 2012-2013 LARGE VARSITY DIVISION STATE DANCE CHAMPIONSHIP IN BOTH THE POM CATEGORY AND JAZZ CATEGORY.

WHEREAS, the 2012-2013 Ocean Springs High School Greyhounds Dance Team competed against several other squads in the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) State Dance Championship, and after their superb performance, won the 2012-2013 Large Varsity Division Dance Championship in the Jazz Category; and

WHEREAS, this year the Ocean Springs High School Dancers solidified their rise to championship status by continuing the precedent they established at regional competition to reach the state championship competition and lay claim to the third championship title in the program's history; and

WHEREAS, a high school dance team might sound like fun and games to some people, but for the members of the Ocean Springs High School Dance Team it meant much hard work and plenty of lengthy practice sessions; and

WHEREAS, under the superb leadership guidance of Head Coach Kim Perry, who has refined their skills in execution, the hours of hard work and dedication paid off as the team put together outstanding performances to rise above a field of intense competition and prevail as state champions in the Jazz Category; and

WHEREAS, in addition to coaching the team to the state championship, Coach Perry and Coach Reiser have instilled and fostered in the members of the team the discipline and work ethic that will help them to be successful in other phases of their lives; and

WHEREAS, the 2012-2013 Ocean Springs High School Dance Team members include: Maggie Reid, Melissa Reid, Sara Ridgeway, Mary Katherine Mattiace, Sidnye Smith, Lindsay Akisson, Kalynn Broome, Katelyn Brown, Elizabeth Broadus, Kendyl Williams, Bryanna Shaw, Grace Munro, Brenna Yarborough, Caitlin Gregory, Crystal Gregory, Bailey Dalgo, Sally Boswell, Ally Iachino, Carley Knochel, Olivia Eustice, Olivia Nash, Elizabeth Thompson, Bailey Wineski, Jessica Campbell, Adria Sabino, Jillian Vice, Victoria Vice, Madison Bellon, Sara Parker Daniels and Yasmine Osman; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend such a superb group of student athletes as the Ocean Springs High School Greyhounds Dance Team, who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the 2012-2013 Ocean Springs High School Greyhounds Dance Team and Head Coach Kim Perry for winning the Large Varsity Division State Championship in both the Pom Category and the Jazz Category and extend best wishes for continued success in all their future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Ocean Springs High School, Coach Kim Perry, to each member of the Greyhounds Dance Team and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
