House Resolution 10

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING REPRESENTATIVE ROGER G. ISHEE FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF SERVICE AS A MEMBER OF THE MISSISSIPPI HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

     WHEREAS, after 15 years of dedicated service to the citizens of House District 118, which is comprised of Harrison County, the Honorable Roger G. Ishee, a distinguished member of the Mississippi House of Representatives, will make the 2011 legislative year his last at the end of the current term of office; and

     WHEREAS, born March 25, 1930, in Dushau, Mississippi, Representative Ishee graduated from Louin High School and attended Louisiana State University, where he earned his bachelor of science degree in petroleum engineering in 1957; and

     WHEREAS, before undertaking this collegiate matriculation, Roger devoted his youthful vigor and patriotic allegiance to the service of these United States as an enlisted member of the United States Air Force from 1948-1953, actively serving during the Korean War; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Ishee, a retired salesman and computer and electronic instructor, served the House of Representatives as Vice Chairman of the Conservation and Water Resources Committee during the term beginning in 2004 and as a member of the following House committees:  Appropriations, Education, Ethics, Insurance, Juvenile Justice, Military Affairs, Oil, Gas and Other Minerals, Ports, Harbors and Airports, Penitentiary, Public Property, Select Committee on Gulf Coast Disaster and Universities and Colleges; and

     WHEREAS, in addition to his public service as a member of the House of Representatives, Representative Ishee, a former Air Force Civilian instructor, has volunteered his time, energy and leadership skills to the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), American Legion and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering; and

     WHEREAS, a modest man who is often soft spoken and perhaps one of the most unselfish men you will ever encounter, Representative Ishee is a devout member of the Lutheran Church community of Gulfport, and will be spending his post legislative career with his loving family, including:  his supportive wife, the former Doris Klein; their wonderful sons, Roger E. Ishee and David M. Ishee; and their adoring grandchildren; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Ishee's humble, easygoing and trustworthy personality has complemented his understanding of a myriad of issues he has addressed over the course of 15 years in the Legislature, and his positive influence on all those who have had the pleasure of working with him will surely be missed in the coming years; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to honor the legacy of one of our own, who has represented his district, as well as this legislative body, with honor and dignity:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend Representative Roger G. Ishee for his many years of dedicated and distinguished service to the citizens of House District 118 and the State of Mississippi and extend heartiest wishes upon the conclusion of his service from the Mississippi House of Representatives.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Representative Roger Ishee and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
