Senate Resolution 31

A RESOLUTION TO COMMEND SENATOR STACEY PICKERING FOR HIS DISTINGUISHED SERVICE IN THE MISSISSIPPI SENATE.

     WHEREAS, Senator Stacey E. Pickering is retiring from the Mississippi Senate to run for statewide office after serving 4 years in the Senate; and

     WHEREAS, Senator Pickering is a man of integrity and hard work, and there is an acknowledged respect for the public and private endeavors of our esteemed colleague; and

     WHEREAS, Senator Pickering represents the 42nd District which encompasses Jones County.  He has served as Chairman of the Local and Private Committee and also serves on the Constitution, Finance, Forestry, Highways and Transportation, Judiciary B, Oil, Gas and Other Minerals, and Universities and Colleges Committees, and is Chairman of the Joint Committee on Enrolled Bills; and

     WHEREAS, Senator Pickering is known and respected for his excellent public speaking ability and has been assigned a leadership role on several complex issues during his term in the Senate, particularly in the area of economic development and highway construction; and

     WHEREAS, Senator Pickering attended Jones County Junior College and has a Bachelors Degree from Samford University and a Masters in Divinity from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.  He is a Pastor and leader in the Baptist Church, a Mason and member of the NRA.  He is married to the former Whitney Wheeler and the couple has 4 children:  Katie Beth, Robert Grady, Harrison, and John Thomas; and

     WHEREAS, Stacey was a source of energy for the Senate, often taking on difficult subjects and concerns for the leadership, and his efforts were always channeled toward what was best for our state:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and recognize Senator Stacey Pickering for his distinguished service to the Mississippi Senate and to the people of his Senate District and state, and we wish Stacey and his wife, Whitney, and family much success in their future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Senator Stacey Pickering.
